6 Tips For Ac Maintenance
Regular AC maintenance will give you lots of energy savings and reduce your electricity bills
. Your AC has various moving and non-moving parts, which include the following main parts: Pump/compressor/motor, Electrical components and controls, Evaporator and Condenser Coils, Thermostat, Filter, Switch and Fan.
Every part requires regular maintenance to perform smoothly. But most people neglect maintenance, which leads to more severe AC break downs later. Your AC demands preventive maintenance, which can be done rapidly by a trained AC technician:
1. Minimize the dirt and debris near the condenser unit.
2. Inspect for any leak in the seal between the AC and the window frame to protect cool air from escaping outside.
3. Pass a stiff wire through the unit's drain channels. Clogged drain channels prevent a unit from reducing humidity from the room air.
4. Ensure proper Coolant level in your AC, and check for any leaks.
5. Filters need to be in good condition to circulate fresh air. Since the filters also aid in removing dust, an AC helps in avoiding risk to health due to unhealthy air. Air flow is very important for energy efficient working of the heating and cooling systems. Clogged filters cause air flow restriction on the evaporator or condenser coils leading to excessive amperage load, which can lead to premature failure of electrical and mechanical components like circuit breakers, blower motors, etc. Thus it is important to replace your AC filters every 30 days.
6. The evaporator and condenser coils of an AC collect a lot of dirt over time. A clean filter can prevent evaporator coil from soiling but the coil would invariably collect some dust over time. This reduces the air flow and it also reduces the heat transfer efficiency leading to low absorption of heat from your house or office.
AC Maintenance can be carried out before the on set of the usage season, and once the season starts, preventive maintenance must be done on a regular basis. Also, during off-season when the system is not working, try to switch on the system for small periods of time because many moving parts should not be kept idle for long. Doing this would increase life of the components.
There are many such check points to ensure proper functioning of your AC, and we can help you in doing a complete health checkup of your air conditioning system and provide in time and cost effective maintenance services.
A common mistake that many people make is that they try to repair an old heating and cooling system repeatedly. They feel that if they replace a damaged motor every other part would function well for long. They do not realize that other parts are also as old as the motor and would call for maintenance quite soon.
So if your AC is about 10 years old it is time to replace it with a new energy efficient model. Also, with the current tax credit of 30% that one can get on buying energy efficient, it makes a good case for buying a new AC.
