6th Annual Copa Del Rey International Polo Tournament In Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos will be hosting the 6th Annual Copa del Rey International Polo Tournament to be held from May 17-20, 2012. Six teams with players drawn from United States, Canada, Argentina, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Ireland and Mexico will vie for the honors at this prestigious and one-of-a-kind tournament in Mexico. This tournament has been ranked as 4-6 goal this year and is a multi-day tournament. The actual location of the event will be El Rey Polo Country Club in Puerto Morelos in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico.

The tournament was first held in the year 2007, which saw acclaimed polo player Carlos Gracida participate in the inaugural El Rey Cup. Since, since then this tournament has become a highly anticipated event in the social calendar of this beautiful beach destination.

Puerto Morelos though overshadowed by Playa del Carmen and Cancun has been receiving lot of attention lately because of its strategic location and abundance of natural beauty beaches and forests. With a laid back lifestyle, coral reef and National Marine Park, Puerto Morelos is actually the La Joya del Caribe (Jewel of the Caribbean).

With events such as El Rey Cup, the region will get even more attention from media and public. Mexican telecom giant NEXTEL is the title sponsor. The tournament promises to be an exciting affair with 5 days of non-stop parties, fashion shows blended with the local culture and traditions. The tournament will be blessed by Mayan priests amidst the sound of conch shell. After this in a colorful ceremony, local dance, music and ritual will be showcased by the native Mayans.

El Rey Polo Country Club is the only regulation polo field in the Mexican Caribbean and is located on La Ruta de los Cenotes. For tourists who will be visiting Playa del Carmen or Cancun around this time, a stopover at Puerto Morelos is strongly advised. They will be able to see polo matches in action.
