7 Creative Ways To Incorporate A Workout Into Your Daily Routine
Working people find it hard to block off exercise time in their schedules
. This is understandable because an "hour" of exercise actually requires additional time for getting there, changing into workout gear and taking a shower. For someone with a hectic schedule, blocking off time for all of these is certainly too much.
This does not mean however that busy people should be resigned to being sedentary. With a little creativity, exercise can be incorporated into one's daily activities. According to experts, a workout does not have to be completed in one straight hour. You can do mini-workout sessions throughout the day which can add up to a full hour.
Studies show that in addition to a fit body, exercise also sharpens the mind and creates a more positive outlook. People who exercise find that they have more energy that lasts throughout the day. If you are a workaholic, this should motivate you to get started on an exercise regimen of your own. Below are 7 tips to help you squeeze in precious exercise minutes into your daily routine.
1. Don't while away the time. If you make a call and are put on hold, don't spend the time being frustrated, move your body! You can do knee-ups, do isometric butt exercises or march in place. Engaging in such activities will help you burn a few calories and release negative energy.
2. Break into a sweat during your break time. Instead of raiding the snack machine which will only increase your empty calorie intake, go up and down the stairs or do step-ups instead. This will get your blood pumping leaving you more alert, energized and ready to get back to work.
3. Challenge yourself. If you regularly take the stairs, you will eventually increase your fitness level and the activity will no longer be challenging. You need to increase the intensity of your stylized exercise. Go for two steps instead of one. Stepping higher will work out your gluteus maximus or the muscles in your buttocks and will firm up your quadriceps or thigh muscles. If you do it faster, the more fats you will burn off.
4. Do your share for the environment. You can help lessen air pollution if you use your legs more often. If you live within walking distance to work, why not leave the car and go on foot? If you take the car, you can park at a slot farthest from the building entrance and you can walk the rest of the way. Another alternative would be to ride your bike to work. You do not have to do your walking or biking everyday, three times a week is sufficient.
5. Don't be a lounge lizard. Instead of relaxing on the couch while watching TV, why not jump on your treadmill or do some floor exercises? It would be more convenient if you can set up your home exercise equipment near the television set.
6. Multi-task. Combining exercise and work is possible. You can read a report while on the stationary bike or make a voice recording of a presentation while walking on the treadmill. Instead of being a hindrance, exercising while you work can actually help you think more clearly.
7. Make a run for it! Cordless phones encourage people to become lazy. Whenever the phone rings, make it a point to answer it on the extension that is farthest from you. You will of course have to sprint for it lest you miss that all important call you have been waiting for.
