8 Things They Don't Tell You About Nursing

You are on the verge of becoming a nurse and are ready to take the final plunge

, there are certain things you need to know about the working world of the nurses. Given below is a peek into the world of nurses, their professions and their lives, a list of things they never tell you about.

*Nurses are workers: Nursing is not a glamorous profession. It is a job and has to be performed like one. It is a job in which you are required to perform your duties with sincerity and not expect glory.

*It is a physically and emotionally straining job: This job will require a major input on your part. You will discover that the job will be a major physical and emotional drainer. You will be required to run around, rush with supplies and push gurneys around. You will be required to be physically active and at the end of the day, your feet will kill you.

*You have to deal with families: Families of the patients come with them, you have to accept that. You also have to accept that you have to deal with them during the course of the event. You will have to as sympathetic and compassionate as you you can be.

*You are a secretary as well: Not just the patient but paperwork, charts, discharge papers, they all are also your responsibility. Try as hard as you can to avoid that but you can't. In fact, the record maintenance has to be done very meticulously.

*Trust your own smartness: Be smart and try not to depend on other people or other staff for every small detail. Make a note of all what you require and from where. In times of emergency, you can't afford to waste time looking for people and resources.

*You will meet people who think they know too much: You will make friends, meet seniors and be lectured by peers. Most of them will try and tell you how they know more than you and will spend lesser time doing their job. Let them enjoy their momentary glory, concentrate on your work and be focused.

*You will have visitors you don't really appreciate: The Joint Commission, yeah, they are the same people from the Health Department, will come calling. You are not really going to enjoy their visits and will learn to hate them.

*Your bladder has to be tamed: Your bladder will be tested to see how long you can wait before you relieve yourself.

So with this list of things you were not told about, gear up for a life to serve people to the best of your abilities.
