1. Always try and eat carbohydrate and protein together at every meal. Protein stabilizes insulin levels, which leads to steady energy throughout the day. One more benefit, eating protein has been shown to reduce your appetite. Protein and carbohydrate work together so should be eaten together for long term health.

2. Tomato based soups or stews are the healthiest and the lowest in calories generally speaking. An easy rule to soups, sauces, or stews is that if it is tomato based it is what you want anything milk based is a no-no. Try eating your baked potato with salsa on top instead of butter, sour cream and chives. It is just as tasty but with far fewer calories and fat grams.

3. Magnesium is a mineral needed by every cell inside the human body. Magnesium is used in many biochemical reactions including protein synthesis and energy metabolism. The National Institute of Health reports the majority of Americans are not getting enough Magnesium in their diet. Foods that contain high levels of Magnesium include green vegetables, halibut, nuts (almonds, cashews, and peanuts), soybeans, whole-grain cereals, oatmeal, and legumes. Be sure to use these foods if increasing metabolism is on your weight loss plan.


4. Your metabolism would rather sit on a lounge chair and relax all day long! What you want to do is get it excited and motivated to run at a high pace throughout the day! The best solution I have found to do this is by mixing around your nutrient intake (shifting) so that your metabolism will never adjust to how you eat each day. This simple technique of dieting is responsible for having me drop an amazing 10 pounds of fat in my first 2 weeks, and then I ultimately lost 52 pounds in 2 months.

5. Drink 2 liters of water per day to help with long term weight loss. Many of our hunger pangs are really thirst pangs so reach for the water first. Also water is essential in the fat buring process so make sure you get plenty each day.

6. Snacking gives your body a fuel boost and will assist in increasing metabolism. Eating healthy snacks, in the right portions, will help you avoid overhungry-overeating situations that leads to lethargic feelings and weight problems. Healthy snacks include carb/protein combinations like peanut butter and bananas, trail mix, hummus and baby carrots, apples and low-fat cheese, etc.
