A Beginner's Guide to the eBook Reader

For those of you who are new to the world of technology and to the eBook reader, you are going to see that there are hundreds of them to choose from. Each one offers something different, and seems like it can offer more benefits than the previous model. While you may be overwhelmed, once you learn about them, choosing one is not going to be that hard at all.

When you begin looking into them, you are going to see a bunch of things that may not make sense to you, and this is why you should start small and work your way up over time to get more familiarized with the features. That way, you can get a better feel for which features will come handy to you, and which won't.

Weight and Size

When you are looking at a reader's specs, you are going to see how much it weighs as well as the dimensions of it. It will tell you the height, width, and the depth, too. This may not make sense to you, but it determines which one people will buy. The weight is another biggie as well. You will see the weight in ounces, and a standard reader usually weighs in at around 5 to 20 ounces. You can compare this weight to a paperback book, as they usually weight about 10 ounces. This can help you determine which one to choose.

Supported Formats

This is a big factor to take into consideration. Some support multiple files while others may only support PDF files or eBook files. There are even some readers that you can play an mp3 on. Some people want the whole shebang, so determine what you want before beginning your search.

Free Downloads

Depending on the eBook reader you get, you may also be able to download content for free from a certain site the manufacturer partners with. Some readers don't offer this, so you are going to have to purchase all of the content. Some sites offer free content no matter what reader you have, so this will take some time to figure out.

Keeping these things in mind will help you get a better understanding of what makes a reader good as well as which one is best for you.
