A Choice between two Degrees - StudentScholarships.org

Ever since I can remember, I have been an extremely decisive person. I make a decision and stick to it, at least until something better or more persuasive comes along to change my opinion. Unfortunately, perhaps, I am also very open-minded and listen to almost anyones suggestions. For example, when I was twelve, I decided that I needed to be a judge because there wasnt enough justice in the world, due to unbelievable bias and corruption within the legal system. My father then told me that I would need to be a lawyer, prior to being appointed a judge, to ensure that I knew the law, etc. To me, being a lawyer is sometimes the antithesis of justice being served, as a lawyer may have to represent a guilty party, to the best of his or her ability. Also, that a lawyer is paid exorbitant amounts for merely being more knowledgeable and manipulative than the common person never struck me as an ideal way to earn money. I decided against such a path because I knew that it could never make me happy to have a guilty conscience and that I would not necessarily be appointed to the post that I wanted in the first place.
Currently, the decision that plagues me is between a B.A. in
Business Finance or a B.S. in Biochemistry. However different these two fields may be, I find that I excel in and enjoy both. The decision, as both fields offer generous recompense and involve daily challenges, is based solely on my happiness. Could I possibly be happy working with money everyday, after attaining at least a masters degree in business? I believe that I could, but I worry about becoming bored, if the mathematics doesnt offer enough variety to make work interesting. Should I major in Biochemistry, I would go on to achieve masters and doctoral degrees in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, settling down to a life of medicinal research afterwards. Such a career would offer something different everyday, but, should research not prove fruitful, grow depressing quickly. To double major would mean adding much time to my undergraduate studies and would really be just postponing the decision until my graduate studies.
In short, I believe that choosing between these two college majors, ultimately a decision between two careers, will prove to be a critical point in my life. Hopefully, my decision will lead to happiness, success, and financial security.About the Author:
