A Closer Look at the New LG Optimus 7

A growing number of manufacturers are currently producing handsets that utilise the impressive Windows 7 operating system, and now you can add LG's name to that list with the launch of their newest model, the Optimus 7.

The new Windows 7 operating system makes a refreshing change from the likes of Apples operating system or the ever popular Android. Two things are immediately obvious about Windows, firstly that the homescreen looks superb. Gone are the rows upon row of tiny widgets, in their place are hubs, colourful tiles that relate to various areas of the phone. And these tiles are what gives us the second stand out aspect, which is the wealth of information to hand without physically loading any specific application on the handset. The Peoples tile for example shows continually changing photographs of your friends, the games hub feature your Xbox live avatar. These tiles cascade vertically down the screen, and to access any one of them you just need to swipe your fingers. There are also a selection of static tiles, these simply provide you with shortcuts to various applications. The screen is customisable, allowing you to not only change the order of appearance but also allowing you to "pin" your favourite apps to the start page. The handset will also prove a hit with social networking fans thanks to the handsets excellent intergration with the likes of Facebook. Thanks to such great features, as well as Microsofts insistence that the manufacturers leave the layout relatively untouched, it is quite possible that in coming months and years the format will prove as popular and as instantly recognisable as the likes of Android and IOS.

The design of the LG Optimus 7 is both eye catching and stylish. At 125 x 59.8 x 11.5mm, the phone is compact enough without any sacrifices being made on the screen side. In use, the phone feels comfortable in the palm of your hand and the weight, despite not being one of the lightest phones available, make the phone feel well built but not to heavy. The glossy black finish found on the front side of the chassis is in contrast to the metal plate that makes up the back. This looks great, and when the phone is activated with Windows 7 in all its glory displayed on the screen, it is hard to envisage a nicer looking phone. The model runs on a 1Ghz processor that easily handles any task you ask of it, also at lightning fast speed. 16GB of internal memory is also installed, however there is no micro SD card slot meaning those looking for larger memory capacity will need to look elsewhere. The Optimus 7 is a great handset from LG. Windows OS is appealing, but even without this attraction the phone is a winner thanks to modern looks and great features.

The LG Optimus 7 and the HTC Desire Z are available now.
