A Few Job Interview No-nos

In this modern age, getting job doesnt have to entail physically leaving your house and dressing up for a job interview

. A lot of jobs now, especially those that are considered home-based, can be found online and all you need to do is go to a job site and submit your resume. Even the interview itself would not require your physical presence. You just need to have a personal computer, an internet access, and a headset and you can already attend an interview.

Nailing the job you want can be done by considering a few factors. You really dont have to be the most qualified person among the applicants to secure a position in a company. Sometimes, its the little things that can make or break your application. If youre job-hunting now, whether youre looking for engineering positions or want to consider accounting jobs, here are some job interview no-nos:

1. Spamming your resume. Some HR managers are turned off with ones resume when they see the names of the sites where the job position was posted. Mentioning one site is good enough. Also, dont make the mistake of applying for every available position in the company. This is another turn-off factor for employers and may even raise a red flag. Focus only on the position youre most qualified for.

2. Asking the wrong questions. Sometimes, interviewers allow the applicant to ask a question or two in case they want to clarify something about the position or about the company. But asking what the nature of the companys business is only shows that youre really not that interested at all in the company. Be sure to know everything you possibly can about the organization before the interview. Also, dont ask impertinent questions, especially those that are on a personal level.

3. Showing too much emotion. Its okay to smile every now and then if theres a light moment during the interview. In fact, a bit of humor will also be appreciated. But never overdo it. Remember that youre only at a getting-to-know-each-other stage, so laughing most of the time or uncontrollably may just turn the interviewer off. It can be a sign that youre trying too hard to be liked by your potential employer.

4. Not being punctual. Being on time or not says a lot about a persons professionalism or lack of it. Make sure to be online or at the job interview venue ahead of the interviewer. Being there late could be an automatic 50% demerit for you.

5. Explaining too much or too little. There are certain questions that require lengthy answers and there are those that only need to be answered with a sentence or two. Be sure to know which types of questions they are. An example of a question that requires a long reply is explaining why you left a certain organization.

In getting the job you want, preparing a good resume is only half the battle. More often than not, its what you do and say and how you act during the interview that can actually seal the deal. So, whether youre looking for nursing or HR jobs now, get yourself prepped up for that all-important job interview.
