A Guide To Basic Airsoft Equipment

If you're interested in getting into airsoft gun tournaments

, you may wonder what kind of equipment you'll need to invest in. Here is a brief guide.

Of course you'll need an airsoft gun. Performance, taste, and the type of tournament you want to play in will affect your choice. While there are spring-powered guns and gas guns, the most popular are airsoft electric guns. Also called automatic electric guns (AEGs in either case), they're powered by a small, battery-powered motor. Many of these guns have very rapid firing rates and many have high-capacity magazines. The batteries are rechargeable and lighter to carry around than extra gas cartridges needed for gas guns.

The exact style of airsoft gun you choose may be chosen to reflect the position you choose or, are interested in for these tournaments. You may want to be a sniper, or a rifleman, and you should choose your weapon accordingly. Air handguns usually work better in closer environments like close quarter battles (CQBs). Beginners generally like these for getting started. They're small and easy to carry and operate. However, long-range aiming can be difficult. Many players carry these air handguns as backup weapons to their long rifles.

Airsoft submachine guns have automatic capabilities and reasonable accuracy. They are also popular in CQBs. Airsoft rifles are better for long-range shooting accuracy. They can be bulky in CQBs, however. These usually have both semi-automatic and fully automatic firing ability. Sniper rifles are designed for long-range shooting and have functioning scopes. If you should buy an airsoft sniper rifle with a fake scope, you should replace it with a real one. Airsoft shotguns work well in CQBs and medium-range firing scenarios.

As for ammunition, airsoft guns fire 6mm or 8mm plastic BBs. The most common BBs weigh 0.12 grams, which you should know tend to veer once they leave the barrel. The 0.2 gram BBs are more accurate, but have decreased range.

Most tournament players buy camouflage. It gets them in the right frame of mind, and it works! Sometimes camo gives you just the few more seconds you need to escape detection. In some tournaments, the different teams are assigned separate camo patterns, so when you attend such an event, make sure you have the correct camouflage with you.

Many players who use airsoft pistols use holsters. They come in three types: hip-mounted, tactical thigh, and shoulder. You'll definitely want one if your pistol is a secondary weapon so you'll have your hands free for other things. You can get holsters to match your camouflage if you want.

Most people don't think of their canteen as a piece of safety equipment, but even in cold weather, dehydration is your enemy. You should keep water on you at all times if possible. Thirst is not only dangerous, it can impair your abilities in the field.

There are plenty of other accessories an airsoft tournament player may want, like radios. And you will be required to have goggles and other safety equipment before you're allowed to play. Plan out your acquisitions in advance so that you'll be ready to go as soon as you find a team looking for new players. Be safe, and have fun!
