. Often the goal is to lose weight, but sometimes its difficult to know where to begin. Once you know the right foods to eat, you can begin your journey to better living.
If nothing else you should remember this: natural foods are the best for you. That tip about not eating ingredients that you can't pronounce is pretty accurate. Whole and fresh foods are best. To keep your heart in good shape, a steady diet of fruits and vegetables is key. You know the saying about having an apple a day, but also consider new fruits to spice things up. Papaya is full of calcium, potassium, magnesium and other healthy nutrients. Sweet potato is a good substitute for regular white potatoes because of its vitamins and fiber, and spinach is more nutrient-rich than Iceberg and other lettuces. Eating your veggies doesn't have to be boring when you add variety and don't mind looking for new and exciting cooking ideas.
Are you thinking about protein now? Fish, beef and poultry aren't all bad for you. You can't actually enjoy a balanced diet without healthy protein. Be sure to look for omega-3 fatty acids. These are good fats that are abundant in fish like salmon and tuna. For good fats, consider black or kidney beans. Walnuts and almonds also have good fats in the form of plant omega-3's. The nutrients in these proteins should be part of a well-balanced diet because they help protect your heart.
Lastly, you have permission to treat yourself. That's no trick or test. Rich dark chocolate and a bit of red wine can be healthy. Dark chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 70% and red wine are two foods that can help lower blood pressure and bad cholesterol. With all desserts and snacks, eating them in moderation or only occasionally is the best piece of advice. You're more likely to maintain a healthy diet when you don't feel like eating a couple cookies or chips is "cheating."
Its much easier to maintain a healthy diet when you make simple lifestyle changes. It's most important to enjoy exercise, a well-balanced diet and hobbies that enrich your life.
