A New Approach to Animal Portraits

In one museum, a program to be held in conjunction with their animal friends exhibit is where six local artists will demonstrate their individual approaches to animal painting. Every artist is required to create an animal theme painting in the museum galleries and then share information with the visitors pertaining to the style and techniques they used to capture the image and spirit of the animals in the paintings. Considering people of various cultures and backgrounds, the executive director of a museum said that animals finds special meaning in them.

Buffalos provide a symbol of spirituality while doves act as signs of peace. Representing a good omen is a red tailed hawk while dogs symbolize cherished friends. When it comes to animals, from petroglyphs to cave murals to oil paintings to jewelry they have been the subjects of artistic endeavor since the beginning of time and continue to be favored all around the world.

This female artist considers herself to be an avid explorer of ideas, styles, and techniques. The way she developed her methods was through a long career of teaching, in workshop presentations, publications, and consulting. Not only is she listed in the west's who's who but is also a founding member of a local society of watercolorists.

There was one female artist who came from southern California and before moving to her hometown in 1983 she took up art and watercolor. Her themes range from landscapes and floral studies to portraits of people and animals. Her style results from what has been called her rich and aggressive use of pigment and from her ability to push the watercolor medium into works of unusual size without sacrificing the brilliance of transparent watercolor, the director said.

Another artist did not only study at a famous college but also at the art center of college of design in Los Angeles. He was a graphic designer when he was in Chicago who has experience in national exhibits including the national watercolor exhibition in environment. Aside from creating presentations and publications in Springfield, Illinois each of the artists will also be making them in local and regional venues.

A period of study at the University of California in Los Angeles followed the fourth artist's graduation with high honors from New York's school of art. She received an award for the best of show at Washington school of art's 12th annual competition. A reviewer described her work as giving a precious glimpse of human drama, full of psychological poignancy as parts of a famous director's film.

At the Kansas university school of fine arts was where the fifth artist earned her painting degree. As she paints in her own interpretive style of realism, she provides the viewers with a feeling of the subject's mood and the atmosphere as well. Apart from participating in the Kansas landscape which is a traveling exhibition shown at the Smithsonian institution in Washington, DC, she has also held a number of one person shows and has participated in juried exhibitions too.

Able to culminate her study of art and refinement of painting skills was the sixth artist after spending eight years studying Chinese brush painting with a noted Chinese painter. She has adapted this style of painting, lifted or erased during creation, to the northern New Mexican environment. According to the director of the museum, they are honored to welcome these distinguished artists from the society of watercolorists to the museum and their commitment to artists and designers working showing up was also reiterated.

The current animal friends exhibition has been specially selected for the delight of audiences both young and old. As the artists create portraits of their own special animal friends, the visitors will surely enjoy the workshop. Founded in 1992 was the society of watercolorists and it has a mission to encourage the local and national production as well as appreciation of professional quality watercolors.
