The National Association of Realtors added a new curriculum to certify Realtors as a Seniors Real Estate Specialist ("SRES").

To gain the SRES designation, a realtor must complete courses focusing on trends related to the 55+ generation having to do with financial planning and retirement income, housing that meets their unique needs as they age, strategies to plan ahead for life transitions, and means to establish themselves in a totally new area so they can experience a "soft landing".

The new Realtor is much more of an advisor and market specialist rather than a salesperson who just wants to make a commission. To make North Carolina and South Carolina feel like home and retirement a success, the 55+ buyer has many other needs than just buying a house in a new area. It takes a personal approach.

The choices in housing today are numerous, from the typical single family housing development to active lifestyle communities, age restricted communities, aging in place developments, and assisted living. It takes a skilled, educated, caring professional to guide you along the way, so you can make the best choice for you in North Carolina or South Carolina!

Many people over 55 have 401K accounts and IRA's that can be used to purchase real estate. The SRES can take this into consideration as well as the tax implications.
