A New Year - A New Beginning

I was writing a cheque this morning dated December 31

, 2009 and I realized that this would be the last time I would write 2009 and it would be the last day I would live in that year. These thoughts made me feel somewhat sad like I was saying goodbye to an old friend but also optimistic that I would be saying hello to a new one tomorrow when I welcomed in 2010.

The first day of a new year is like standing at the beginning of a very large bridge that you are about to walk over. You cannot see to the other side and you have no idea where that bridge will take you or what it will feel like to walk upon, but walk upon it you must if you are ever going to get to where you are planning to go.

And so you move forward, one step at a time, one foot in front of the other, setting a clear intention that you want the experience of moving across to be a pleasant one. You remember that it is the journey and not the destination that really matters and you begin to enjoy the gentle wind upon your face and the sweet sounds of the birds flying above and the water flowing below.

Our journey through life is very much like this. We have no idea where it will take us sometimes but we just need to keep walking because that is the important thing. To just be here now. To just keep showing up.

And so as I was walking this morning I got the feeling to share something I wrote several years ago about the start of a New Year. I hope you enjoy it and that you have a beautiful day and a spectacular New Year. May it be the very BEST year of your life so far!

A New Year,

A New Beginning,

A fresh start once again.

A golden treasure box of waiting dreams unopened.

An untouched pathway of freshly, fallen snow.

Where will your footsteps go?

Another chapter in the story of your life,

to be written on crisp white paper, with purple ink.

A song unsung, waiting for the melody of your heart.

When will you start?

A meadow bright with dew kissed flowers,

reaching for the light, and waiting

This New Year, I give to you, my friend,

A clean slate and canvas to paint upon your life.

May your picture be colored with new found joys,

brushed with the wonder of simple things,

and framed in gentle magic!
