A New Year In London

September represents a lot of things

September represents a lot of things. The end of summer, the beginning of autumn and the start of a new school year. The scent of fresh starts is hanging in the air so much you can practically smell the sharpened pencils and rubber binders.

For those of us who have long since passed our school days, we have other fresh starts to look forward to. Another year at the office, a year to learn more, do better and push ourselves further. Another year to get into shape, join the gym, eat healthy and keep that promise we made to ourselves to walk to work every day. And a new year to explore our city and take full advantage of it. To take new courses, see more theatre, try new restaurants and bars and visit more galleries.

Well there's no better time to start than the present, so let's see what's going on in London right now.

1. London Design Festival:

Every year London streets become flooded with interactive inventions, modern furniture, mirrors, staircases and walk-through design experiences. This year some of the major players included John Pawson, David Chipperfield, Amanda Levete and the Bouroullec Brothers. Look them up now and you may still have time to see their contributions before they're dismantled.

2. Frieze Art Fair:

Frieze Art Fair is taking place this year on October 13 in Regents Park. This is the event to go to if you're interested in buying art. There will be works exhibited by over 1,000 artists from around the world who are represented by 170 galleries.

3. Degas and the Ballet:

If you want to enjoy art without the stress of time, then try to at least make it to the Royal Academy of Arts before December 11. There you can enjoy one of the world's most loved painters, Degas, and a collection of his favourite subject, ballet dancers.

4. Booking Office:

Located in the St. Pancreas Renaissance London Hotel, Booking Office has been rated one of London residents favourite places to go for a drink. The ceilings are extremely high, the dcor very business-like, and I suppose there is something about the railways that make the people in there feel busy, powerful and important.

5. Hot Air Balloon Ride:

For something a little bit out of the ordinary you might want to try a hot air balloon ride this year. There are several launch sites right outside of London, which means that passengers will have the opportunity to get a bird's-eye-view of one the world's most stunning cities.

How will you take advantage of your city this year?
