Getting your home ready for show day can be hard

. A house seems to gather things, and while the owners learn to live with it, prospective buyers may not want to see it. After you've checked a home for repairs, give it some new paints and you're ready. A little bit of decluttering and rearranging, and you think you're done. Before the Realtor arrives, there are a few more things you should check.

Get all dirty dishes away. Check rooms for dishes that can be removed.

Keep laundry off the line out of the basket. Rather pack dirty laundry in a box in a cupboard for the day.

Check all rooms for stray toys. Make sure there are no toys lying around the house or yard.

Make sure all sinks are ringless and toilets are flushed. Put clean towels out just before you leave so no-one uses them and leaves them damp and in disarray.

Keep all beds made and perfectly fluffed.

Open windows to let in fresh air. Spray air freshener or burn incense.

Make sure the garbage disposal is clean, and any garbage bins are empty. Keep the garbage bin out of sight.

Open all curtains and blinds evenly.

If you have pets, watch out for dirt and stray hair.

Check the pavement for litter.

Going through this checklist before you leave your house with the Realtor will help you make sure your home is ready for show day. Show day is an interview for your home. It needs to look its best, be on its best behaviour, and emphasize its best features while minimizing its faults. A buyer will find a well maintained home. A little bit of home staging will help you sell your home - but in the rush before show day, the checklist above will help you make sure everything is spick and span.
