A Preview Of All New Toyota Auris

Toyota has revealed its all new Auris as a direct rival of Volkswagen Golf. As Auris is Europes best seller, it has to be the best at levels. The latest Auris boasts a stylish and sleek design unlike the bald styling of the car it has replaced. The front has been equipped with pointed like narrow head lights and bold feature lines. The new Auris uses the same underpinnings as its predecessor, however, it is 30mm longer and 50mm lower giving it a far sleeker profile. Inside, the cabin has been cleanly laid and boasts high quality materials and extra soft touch plastics. The all new Auris starts rolling out from Toyotas Burnastone, Derbyshire, plant and comes in four models, entry level Active, mid specced Icon, Sport and top of the range Excel.

In hybrid versions, the battery pack is placed underneath the seats which does not compromise the boot space. The Toyota Auris boosts a boot space of 360litres which is 26litres more than the outgoing model. The basic Active trim level costs from 14,295 to buy and the standard kit includes air con, electric windows and side mirrors and MP3 compatible audio system. The Icon models get 16 inch alloy wheels, a rear camera, fog lights and a DAB radio. Sport versions get 17 inch alloys and adds sports front seats and a rear diff and starts from 19,245. Range topping Excel gets the same alloys, climate control, Toyotas self parking system, cruise control and black velour seat upholstery.

The highlights in the optional extras are leather interior, panoramic roof and automatic wipers and dusk sensing lights. The engine options for the new Auris include 1.33 Dual VVT-i and 1.6 Valvematic in petrols and one diesel 1.4 D 4D. The petrol units can be mated with the hybrid. The 1.33 petrol unit is available in the entry level Active and Icon trim levels while the Sport and Excel models get 1.6 Valvematic as an option. The 1.4 D 4D is available across all the models. The Auris Hybrid is offered only in mid specced Icon and range topping Excel versions.

All of the units come with a six speed manual gearbox while there is an option available of Multidrive S CVT automatic with the 1.6 Valvematic while the Hybrid versions are equipped with an E-CVT automatic. The average weight of the new Auris is 40kg less than the previous model and it also 14 percent stiffer. Both of these factors result in improved handling and boost agility making Auris a fun to drive car. The new Auris will be available to buy from this December (2012) and definitely has the more character to it than the car it replaces. Toyota claims it be European customer oriented car. Toyota Europes vice president of product management stated, Europeans drive their car actively, they like their cars to reflect this.
