A Quick Take At The New Gmat Pattern

Every year, thousands of students join the GMAT bandwagon with an aim of getting admission to the top management schools of the globe

. If you want to get into business schools that can change the course of your career, GMAT is the gateway you are looking for. The exam has undergone many changes over the years, and in 2012, the GMAT pattern has undergone a complete change with a new section being added. Check the changes and how the new pattern can be a complete new challenge for every GMAT taker.

A new section called the Integrated Reasoning has been added to GMAT from June 2012. GMAC says that the new section will test the students ability to understand information in multiple formats from multiple sources. The new section has 12 questions, and the time for the section is 30 minutes.

There will 4 categories of questions that will include questions from graphic interpretation, two part analysis questions, table analysis questions, and multi source reasoning questions. This simply means that students will now have to deal with a lot of data that will probably test their ability to make use such data in real business situations. Experts have welcomed this change saying it would increase the dimensions of the exam and will push the competition to a new level.

Most students were doubtful if the new section will increase the time frame of the examination. However, there is some relief for students that the integrated reasoning section has been introduced after dropping an essay from the analysis section. The three hours thirty means frame remains the same, with students will just have to deal with one essay in the first section. For those who feared writing essays, this change can be a breather.

GMAC has not changed anything about the quantitative and verbal sections, which means students will have to attempt the same number of questions in both the sections in 75 minutes each.

How to prepare for the new section?

This is what most students are wondering about. GMAC has announced the section after giving a lot of information on their official website. If you are looking for sample questions and details of the section, you can find all of that online on their portal. Also, many coaching centres are offering students courses based exclusively on the section. Many of the coaching centres have experts who have all the information and tips that can help you make through those critical questions in thirty minutes.

The new section and the fresh change in the GMAT pattern will certainly put some amount of pressure on the students, especially those who are making their second or third attempt and are familiar with the old section. Coaching and some expert help can be great for students to know more about the new section, and not to forget, practice, practice and more practice is all that you need to get that magical score of 700 and above. Start your practice sessions at the earliest.
