A Selling Tool-how Hypnosis Works In Sales
Hypnosis has long been used as a plot device, usually portrayed as placing people
in a zombie-like state in which they will do whatever their 'master' tells them. But this is not the case. Hypnosis actually places you in a hyper-attentive state, and is ideal for selling people products.
In this state, a hypnotized person still has free will and would not do anything that they wouldn't do under normal circumstances. The difference is hypnosis removes mental barriers during selling that prevents them from doing what they would otherwise be willing to do.
This is why in selling situations, people can be persuaded to purchase something that they say they cannot afford.
Hypnosis still remains something of a mystery to scientists. Odds are you have been hypnotized multiple times in your life without even realizing it. The 'zoned out' state that you achieve under hypnosis is similar to what a person experiences when they are engrossed in a good book or movie.
Other distractions are tuned out. In sales, other distractions can be tuned out through the person selling a product using hypnotic techniques.
The reason is the unconscious mind doesn't understand the difference between something imagined like a film, and something that is really happening. This helps when selling an item to someone and the customer has doubts about the item-the seller can dispel these doubts by accessing the unconscious.
One theory of hypnotism is it gives you direct access to the unconscious. Your unconscious is active at all times, thinking about problems, and managing mundane tasks such as breathing. Giving the unconscious messages during selling is powerful.
Your conscious mind can also control the above tasks, but you tend to delegate tasks which are not an immediate issue to your unconscious. The conscious mind can only handle a certain amount of information.
Once it has reached that maximum it begins to tune out other things. Now you may see how sales people can distract the conscious mind while adding hypnotic messages to the unconscious in selling.
When you sleep at night, your conscious mind essentially shuts off, while your unconscious continues to work. Your unconscious is the source of your dreams and this is why many people see dreams as signs of major issues you're unconsciously working on.
The conscious mind is your 'sales' filter, with it out of the way you can be convinced of anything that does not contradict your reason or conscience. This is ideal as a selling strategy. Finally, the unconscious is the storehouse of all your memories - accessing these can help the sales person also.
Hypnosis should always be done responsibly in selling or for any other purpose.
