A Surprisingly Green And Pleasant Land
This surprising green and pleasant land stretches over two continents and proudly shows off where east meets west to perfection
. European principles sit easily aside Asian traditions while the ancient history welcomes modern resorts.
Bodrum, Antalya, Izmir and Dalaman are the main tourist regions in Turkey and each one becomes more and more popular every year. Holidaymakers are attracted to the wonderful weather, fantastic beaches, ancient treasures and historical ruins. Spend afternoons bartering at the local bazaar for gold and silver, carpets and rugs, or take a boat trip or gullet cruise from one of the many affluent marinas along these sunny shores. Haggling at the local markets is a way of life here and can be great fun. Don't be scared to haggle even if you've never tried it before, its great fun and they expect you to try it, don't offer silly prices and stand your ground, and youll be amazed at how good it feels when you get yourself a bargain.
Cheap holidays in Turkey have everything from historic journeys through Roman, Lycian, Persian, Ottoman and Byzantine times, lazy days soaking up the sun, or a hectic week full of water sports.
The Antalya region is the furthest east and therefore attracts holidaymakers right through the winter. Izmir, Bodrum and Dalaman are all too cold for the tourists at this time so you can only travel here between May and October.
The damper winters and summer warmth help to keep Turkey green and fertile and keen walkers in particular will appreciate the stunning views along the many trails particularly during early and late season when the temperatures are more bearable. The most famous walk is possibly that along the Lycian way, stretching for 300 miles from Fethiye in the west to Antalya in the east. The Lycian people inhabited this land from 2000AD to 1000BC, and it is where the trail gets its name from. You can actually book holidays to trek along the entire route, or simply take a day or so to explore part of it.
Tourists will travel from all over Europe just to see the wonderfully preserved ruins at Ephesus near Kusadasi. Visit the famous Trojan horse in the ancient city of Troy, or the temple of Aphrodite at Aphrodisias whilst on cheap holidays in Turkey.
Turkey uses the Turkish Lira as its unit of currency although traders will accept the euro or sterling, however by not officially being in the euro, prices are very competitive meaning
cheap holidays in Turkey will be extremely good value for money this summer.
