Pathway Workshop specialises in making garden furniture sets and also provides training and employment opportunities for adults with learning and physical disabilities.

Now the company has been brought on board by the Parish Council to help out the children who attend Mabel Prichard Primary School in Oxford.

At the beginning of October, staff at the school contacted the local paper, The Oxford Mail to appeal to the public for some help to buy new play equipment for the playground.

Despite the play area being extended over the summer months, the school which teaches children with conditions such as autism was unable to find enough money to buy play equipment for pupils to enjoy.

Reading the article, Parish Council chairman for Blackbird Leys, Gordan Roper got to work on having a 2000 grant approved for the school to buy equipment including a playhouse, sandpit and planting beds.

Speaking to The Oxford Mail, Mr Roper was keen to get Pathway Workshop involved in the project and to provide planters for the children.

He said: "We like to improve these children's quality of life where we can.

"It has always been something close to my heart."

Mike Kyle from the Pathway Workshop was happy to get involved in the project that would improve play facilities at the special school.

Also speaking to The Oxford Mail, he said: "We are delighted to be involved in updating the outdoor play equipment.

"We always like to be able to help local organisations and it is a pleasure to do so."

The school was opened in 1954 and was named after Mabel Prichard who had been awarded an OBE for work and dedication to public health and welfare in the local Oxford area
