The Jetta that has now hit the road is a sixth generation car as far as VW is concerned
. Starting with the design the car has been given a complete go over. The designer has worked hard on the car andthe look it givesis an affluent one. Thus the look of the car has improved, with the rear window more like a coupe and the C pillar gives the car a sturdy look.
The car has a big boot that goes over 500 liters. The cabin inside is functional without being extravagant.Perhaps the company has resported to some cost cutting here. The new jetta has a lot of hard plastics, but the aesthetic effect is good and the driver and passanger get a feel that the present interiors are better. An advantage is the designer taking care of small things like cup holders and cubby holes where you can store small things.
The jetta is positioned against the Honda civic. Thus a great deal of attention has been given to the engine. It has apetrol and diesel engine version. The diesel will help it score over other cars in its range as most have the petrol version only.
The diesel is a 2.0 liter TDi engine that gives out 140 BHP.The engine is smooth and responsive. The jetta sports a six speed gear box that gives a wide range of driving options. The fuel tank is a healthy 55 liters capacity and can take you on a fairly longish round trip. The petrol engine is refined and is a 2.0 turbo petrol giving 175 BHP.
But the competition is to its advantage with the diesel engine.Other cars will find it difficult to match. However the price is a little steep a at 16-18 lakh, but with rising gas prices the jetta may hold its own against the other car manufacturers.
