Abdominoplasty - Deciding On A Tummy Tuck
It's easy to see some before and after pictures of abdominoplasty and wonder what this type of plastic surgery might be able to do for you
. After all, these people look so much better after their procedure and you don't look half as bad in a bikini as they did in their before pictures. If they look great after having a tummy tuck, how awesome would you look? Of course, this might be true and it might not. It's important to understand that a tummy tuck is a rather invasive procedure and can take a great deal of recovery time. It's not something that should be entered into lightly.
The first thing you want to do is carefully and deliberately analyze your reasons for wanting an abdominoplasty. Seeing other people's results may have put you in mind of the procedure, but you should have much better reasons than that. There are even some legitimate medical reasons for having a tummy tuck. Lower back pain is often a sign of weak stomach muscles, one of the things that a tummy tuck aims to fix. Of course, the main reason people have the procedure done is cosmetic. After losing a great deal of weight, many people are left with flabby, loose skin in their midsections. The only way to get rid of it is through a tummy tuck. This may be reason enough for you.
Of course, no matter how badly you might want the abdominoplasty, it's important to remember that plastic surgery doesn't come cheap (and would you want it if it did?). Consider the costs when thinking about your decision to have the operation. Unless you can prove that the loose skin around your stomach is causing you to contract infections, getting your health insurance to pay for the procedure is going to be a tough sell. No, most operations of this type come out of the patient's pocket and the cost can be rather high. If you want the procedure but can't afford it, you may want to check and see if your preferred surgeon offers a payment plan or financing.
Most of all, remember that results of a surgery of this type are not seen overnight. You don't walk into a plastic surgeon's office, have the operation, and walk out onto the beach the next day. Recovery is likely to be somewhat painful, and many people feel a certain amount of regret during that healing process. It will pass, to be sure, but it's something to think about before you head out to the operating clinic.
