About Communication Barriers and breaking them
Ever wondered why communication agencies or advertising agencies keep talking about communication and their barriers? They are not interested in wasting your time, but they have a point to prove.
One often experiences a breakdown in communication on ground of language. It may be that one is speaking in English and the other in Hindi. It may also be possible that both speak English but come from different countries which may vary their styles and perceptions. There are also breakdowns even if they share the same language, country, origin et al. That difference is brought over by their way of perceptions and judgments.
To translate accurately, first we transfer the data through our senses and our intuitive process. Then we form a judgment about what the data means according to us. Sometimes it may occur that one would intake the data but fail to form a judgment. And some may form their judgments without intaking the complete information.
Humans can be generally categorized in two groups; one those who understand the information and take their time to conclude on judgments, and those who love to jump to conclusions. But humans are efficient enough to perform both the tasks. This difference rings a whole new array of behaviors.
What plays a vital role here is the language. Our language decides the preference of processes and thus differences arise. Though the differences can be subtle, it gives rise to misunderstandings, misconceptions and barriers. Because people think they are clear from their side.
It is kind of natural. We all have opinions. We all make judgments. Let's take examples of some daily life occurrences. Somebody offers you a cake, you decide it is delicious. You go through different clothes and judge what will suit you best. You see a couple arguing; you judge that they are not happy. You rank something, include or exclude something, hate or love something. You are nothing but judging. So such a person is not judgmental, but just prefers judging over perceiving. And this particular action of an individual may send positive or negative vibes about his/her communication.
