Whichever school of thought to one may defer, Sri Pada has been a venue of pilgrimage for over a thousand years.

As the pilgrimage season begins on the full moon day in the month of December, it reaches its climax during the months of January and February. The route to the top of the mountain is quite crowded at this time of the year and the climb itself is a challenging one, as the steps leading to the summit are steep. However, devoted pilgrims make the journey with no complaints as they consider the challenge of the climb a test of faith and devotion.
