Available at most local consumer electronics retailers and through the Dish Network compatible online access purchase links below, these devices connect to the set top box receiver via a USB 2.0 cable and allow you to transfer recorded content from the DVR to the external hard drive. From the external hard drive, the program can be stored, watched, paused or even sent back to the DVR.

There is a one-time $39.99 activation fee required that will enable this feature on all Solo DVR ViP 612, DuoDVR ViP 622, and DuoDVR ViP 722 HD receivers on a customer's account.

While most major manufactured external hard drives are compatible with the Solo DVR ViP 612, DuoDVR ViP 622, and DuoDVR ViP 722 HD receivers, a minimum 50GB and maximum 1TB drive is permitted.
