The increase in efficiency also means that solar panels can now be used in more temperate regions, as opposed to just on and around the equator.

In addition, solar LED lighting systems can be programmed. You can control individual lights and determine how and when they draw the power the solar panels have saved up. The possibilities of this are endless. Imagine being able to light your entire house with just one well programmed panel.

Modern LED systems have become completely discrete units. They do not need to be plugged in to another gadget, nor are they dependant on any. This makes them perfect for outdoor lighting, where obtaining a power supply means long, hard to handle cables.

In addition, LEDs themselves have several advantages over traditional bulbs and even CFLs. They last longer usually between five and fifteen times longer. Their light is more directional, and can be used for lighting scenarios where focussed light is needed. In addition, LEDs do not operate based on temperature, as they do not produce light by heating a filament like normal bulbs. This automatically implies that they work well even in cold temperatures.
