There was another reason why air conditioning was necessary as there were no cool rooms for the patients suffering from malaria and yellow fever in 1800s. The first attempt to manufacture an air conditioner was made by an American physician in 1830s. Dr, John Gorrie during his practice he tried to cool down the hospital rooms for the patients by blowing the air over the ice bucket to cool the rooms.In 1902 the first modern electric air conditioner was invented by Willis Havilland Carrier. Carrier named the machine as "Apparatus for treating air", this machine was installed in hospitals and in pharmaceutical companies and later on the machine was also installed in many textile industries and also in other industries. In 1922 Carrier made very beneficial changes in that machine, he reduced the size of the machine by adding the central compressor and also replaced the ammonia with the benign. These changes had opened the new door for the air conditioning, after the Second World War the most famous window unit appeared. The window unit air conditioning sales in 1953 was 1,045,000 units.
