Air conditioners were invented to create a favorable environment for human beings during the summer or warmer months. The popularity and the demand for the air conditioners has increased due to climate change as some wish to think. They also control the humidity. In the beginning, they were very large in size but the improvement in technology reduced the size of the machines. There are many different sizes available for the air conditioning units and you can also place them on the walls.There were window air conditioning units which used to occupy the window and also somehow block the passage way. Now days there are many different split units available, these spilt units are more energy efficient and they can be placed anywhere in the room on certain heights. There are also portable air conditioners available, you can drag them anywhere. The portable air-conditioners are more popular in those countries where summers lasts for few months at a time and with not very high temperature. You can use one portable system for many rooms, if you are in the living room you can put the air conditioner there and the same air conditioner can be used in your bed room. Portable Air Conditioners are also ideal for a small place. However there are complaints about the noise and adjusting the drainage or air pipe. When we talk about the history of air conditioning units, it starts from the second century from China. There were many different types discovered by different people from different countries over these years. In 1902, Willis Haviland Carrier invented the air conditioner much similar to the one that we use in our home today. This air conditioner started working on 17 July 1902 in Buffalo, New York. The machine was named as "Apparatus for Treating Air". This machine used to cool the air and also lower down the humidity up to 55%, the level was adjustable. These machines were installed in pharmaceutical industries and hospitals. They were very famous due to their functionalities but they were huge, very expensive and they were not very safe. The "Apparatus for Treating Air" was noticeably very dangerous as ammonia was used as coolant in these machines. In 1922, Willis Haviland Carrier came up with some alternates; he replaced the ammonia with benign and added a central compressor. These changes were advantageous and he was capable to reduce the size of the air conditioning units with the same efficiency. Willis Haviland introduced his invention to the movie theaters in New York City in 1925. These air conditioners became very popular all over the country and were also installed in The United States House of Representatives in 1928 and by the end of 1930; they were installed in many official buildings. The most famous window units were invented after the Second World War and they captured the market. In 1953 there were about 1,045,000 units sold. These days the air-conditioners are almost present in every building and home.
