Alcohol And Drug Dependency In Essex Studies Reveal Recreational And Addictive Differences
In a recent study in Essex, it was found that some addicts and people with a dependency on alcohol first dabbled in drink or drugs at the age of 13
. Within a few short years, these addicts and alcoholics found that their problems had spiralled out of control. Most of these people didn't look for help with their problem until they reached their mid-20s and by then the drink and drugs had really taken its toll on them.
There are a number of rehabilitation clinics spread over the Essex area to help people with a drink or drug problem. These clinics are usually private and you have to be able to self-fund your treatment programme. But as most people who have come out of a rehab clinic will tell you, it's well worth paying the money for because you can be successful in kicking drink and drugs.
In Essex, another recent study showed that for some people their views were that there are differences between recreational and addictive drugs. Also for some people who took part in the study, they felt that the problems of drink and drugs were sensationalised by the media. The study also found that for some people, they thought that only users with an underlying addictive personality really had a problem with alcohol and drugs whilst others could continue using it on a recreational basis only and would be able to stop if they had to without any problems in doing so.
Indeed it is true to say that there are many people who are 'casual' users but Essex has a growing problem with drink and drug fuelled crime which cannot be ignored. Drink and drugs can be used by people from all walks of life, all different ages and with all different religious beliefs. But it is still a problem.
Binge drinking has a real serious affect on the local community. More and more people are developing a drink problem especially since the 24 hour licensing laws came into force. Instead of helping to alleviate the problem, it would see that it has helped to make it worse. And for some people, drinking can lead on to them taking drugs. They wouldn't touch drugs in normal circumstance but being under the influence of alcohol and having their mind altered by the drink, they think it's a good idea at the time. Which someone would argue that that's fine if it is for recreational use but what about the person with the addictive personality?
