. If you travel along with the North side of Alicante, you will see a different kind of Spain. This is the hilliest area of Spain along with the Mediterranean Sea. Alcoy is one such tourist destination in this area with plenty of hills and wonderful scenery. Alcoy is located between the mountain of el Carrascal de la Font Roja and la Serra de Mariola. There are many rivers which pass through this place like Serpis, Riquer, Molinar and Benisaido River and this is why Alcoy is known as The City of Bridges.
If you land in Alicante then you have to travel 45kilometers to reach Alcoy and you can reach the place either through N-340 or A-7. You can also reach the destination through rail as there are rail tracks because of the developing paper, cotton, metal and food industry of the town and neighborhood. This is a small town with less population but still it has the economic hub.
Alcoy town has many buildings which have their history related to the 16th century and all these buildings are worth watching because of the classical decoration, style and facades.
Once you reach Alcoy, you must walk through the bridges and streets of the town to enjoy the natural beauty and scenery of landscape. Spring is season of festival in Alcoy and people from many places come to participate in the festival of Moros Y Cristianos. This festival is known to be the very important traditional event of the town and the best celebration of the year in Spain. This festival was started in the year 1672 and it is related to the war between the Muslim leader Al-Azraq and the people of Alcoy in 1276. This festival is most colorful and musical festival in Spain.
