All About Commercial Pilot License
A commercial pilot license is a permit that allows the license holder to act as the
pilot or co-pilot of a single pilot aircraft or a multi-pilot aircraft. However, to get the license, one needs to go through a lot of tests and procedures. There are certain criteria as well that one needs to meet in order to receive a commercial pilot license.
Commercial pilot licensing in Canada is regulated by Canada Transport under the Aeronautics Act and the Canadian Aviation Regulations.
Eligibility Criteria:
To obtain a commercial pilot license in Canada one has to meet the following criteria or requirements.
The candidate has to be 18 years of age
Must hold a private pilot license issued by Canada or a contracting state.
Must have a valid category 1 medical certificate
Should complete a minimum of 80 hours commercial fly
Must pass a written examination of a Transport Canada
Must also pass a practical test/flight test with an approved Transport Canada examiner.
Must complete a fly of at least 200 hours total time
Must also complete 100 hours pilot-in command time, including at least 20 hours of fly between two countries
Nature of Work:
Commercial pilots initially fly light planes and then later on, move on to other various types of aircraft like helicopters and passenger aircraft, depending on the type of license they are holding. Many commercial pilots even begin their career as flight instructors or pilots of floatplane or air charter operators. In Canada, commercial pilots can even start out by flying passengers aircraft, mail or freight to the North, from coast to coast, or overseas.
Primary Duties:
Its the responsibility of a pilot to fly safely according to established and safety procedures, even in abnormal and emergency situations
Commercial pilots are considered to be a systems managers and thus, their main responsibility should be to continually monitor, analyze, and make quick decisions on complex problems, if required.
Ensuring the overall safety of the flight is an important responsibility of commercial pilots. They always have to take a right decision in order to provide safety to the flight.
Preparing flight plans on the basis of weather forecasts is also a duty of a commercial pilot.
They also have to check the level of the fuel in the flight and assess the requirement of fuel.
Have to check the condition and status of the aircraft prior to fly.
They even have to keep updating passengers with the information on weather condition.
How to become an efficient commercial pilot:
1.Firstly, get your private pilot license.
2.The next step is to get a
commercial pilot license that allows to fly and to get paid to fly. To get the license you need to complete 200-250 flying hours but once you get the license, you will be allowed to begin your career at entry level.
3.Have a university degree to stand out from others and to be more efficient at your work. Like with all other career, special preference is given to candidates who hold university degree.
4.Get Airline Transport Pilot License to take your career to the next level. This will allow you to work as a captain in regional or major airlines. To acquire this license, you need to complete 1500 hours of flying experience.
