There are loads of historical buildings all along these water routes. No trip to Amsterdam is complete without a tour down the canals that were created with the 13th century damming of the River Amstel.

Sitting in a quaint cafe on the edge of the street is an excellent way to partake in some people watching time, as well as enjoying an excellent cup of coffee. The shopping district is filled with vibrant stores and markets, there are plenty to spend an entire week shopping in. If shopping isn't your thing, there is always the Van Gogh Museum. This is where the largest collection of Van Gogh works is located. There are over 500 drawings, 700 letters, and 200 paintings available for your perusing.

The artist had a collection of Japanese prints, which are also housed in this museum. Temporary exhibitions are rotated on a regular basis as well. In the center of the city, there is the Anne Frank House.

This famous hiding place, where Anne wrote her well known diary, has become a museum and the original diary is on display here. Rijksmuseum is considered to be one of the greatest art collections in the world of Dutch art.

There are numerous Dutch 17th century works located here, including works by Vermeer and Rembrandt. At the end of the day, a little dancing is often a great way to relax and what better place than Amsterdam.

Melkweg is the largest nightclub in the city and thought to be the best as well. There are weekly events offered at Melkweg to take in also. If you crave live music, Paradiso is the place to be with its full line of concerts and club dates, plus it is open every day.

Visitors have been drawn to this area for centuries and continue to find it as intriguing as ever. It is filled with wondrous waterways, shopping galore, magnificent food, and some of the best nightclubs around. Amsterdam city breaks offer the chance to explore this Dutch capital to its fullest, either alone or with a great group of friends. So, whether it be club hopping into the early morning hours or relaxing in Vondelpark on a sunny afternoon, there is plenty to do and see in this vibrant city.
