Budapest City Breaks: The Pearl Of The Danube

Budapest city breaks are perfect for groups, couples

, and singles wishing to explore this cultural heart of the charming country of Hungary. A thriving culture, mixed with the stunning Old World grandness, is the perfect combination that attracts visits from all over the globe. The Danube River runs through the city center, creating a harmonious blend between the fast paced metropolis and the gently flowing river. The combination of cities Buda and Pest created a fantastic place for weekend exploration.

A relaxing afternoon in one of the 14 open-air baths or thermal spas is the best way to enjoy these therapeutic places. The Turkish atmosphere of the King Spa attracts the ailing locals and travel-weary tourists alike. When the two sides of the Danube merged to create Budapest in 1873, a culturally rich mecca was born. Traveling up to Castle Hill by cable car, for an afternoon stroll around Buda Castle is a great start to the day. The pedestrian area of the Castle District is home to a medieval town.

All the houses and streets that wind through this medieval village date as far back as the Middle Ages, many of which are adorned with Gothic frames around the doors and windows.

Chain Bridge spans the Danube as the first bridge to be made permanent and the night illumination of it is absolutely breathtaking. The main point of Old Town is Trinity Square with Matthias Church where the Baroque Holy Trinity column honors the dead of the two plagues that passed through this area long ago.

Semmelweis Museum is fantastic for an afternoon inside and is dedicated to the doctor Ignac Semmelweis, the "Savior of Mothers". He was responsible for determining the cause of pre-natal fevers and saving many women's lives, due to this discovery.

The museum is filled with pharmacy items, mementos, models of dissection, as well as a mummified skull. With the Danube River running through the middle of Budapest, it can't help but be the main focus to many aspects of the city.

It is not only one of the most celebrated rivers, with its panoramic views, but it also assists in the naming of Budapest as the "Pearl of the Danube". The majority of the sites seen during Budapest city breaks can be reached by the Millennium Metro, which has eleven stations. This quick and useful form of transportation makes it much simpler to explore all the wondrous sites of Budapest.
