One of the best things people can do to avoid getting germs from the flu or other diseases is to learn how to properly wash their hands and then thoroughly dry them with an automatic dryer. Many people don't wash their hands frequently enough, long enough, or dry them all the way when they're done. To stop the spread of illnesses, it's crucial to practice good hand hygiene techniques everywhere, but especially in the bathroom. Developing a few key habits can greatly cut your risks of getting sick.

Wash Properly And Use An Automatic Dryer

The truth is, far more people claim to wash their hands after using the bathroom than actually do it. And those who do "wash" their hands don't always do it correctly or use an automatic hand dryer for long enough. By not cleansing with soap and letting an automatic dryer thoroughly dry the hands, disease-causing microorganisms may still be able to flourish. To wash hands properly, you must first wet the hands with warm water, if available. Apply soap and work into a lather. The CDC and other health agencies recommend rubbing the hands together for at least 20 seconds, rinsing well, and then thoroughly drying hands with an automatic hand dryer when available.

If you can, use tissue to turn off the water when you're done washing, so you won't get germs from the sink handles. Use tissue to open the bathroom door as you leave. Many bathrooms have trashcans near the doorway, so you can easily toss them after use. And above all, don't touch anything you don't need to! With these tips, you should hopefully stay healthier during flu season.
