Anees Bazmee - Bollywood Director

Born in a middle class family, Bazmee had been very much passionate about cinema right from his childhood

. And like many, after getting done with his studies, he came to Mumbai to try his luck in films. He began his career in films with none other than Raj Kapoor, assisting him making the super hit film Prem Rog in 1982. He also assisted for the not so well known films Lava and Jaanoo in the year 1985.

After three films as an assistant director, Bazmee tried his luck in writing. He penned the dialogues for the film Hum Farishtey Nahin in the year 1988. That was his very first film as a writer.

He finally got a break in the year 1990, when he wrote the story for the film Swarg, directed by David Dhawan, which starred Rajesh Khanna, Govinda and Juhi Chawla. Swarg worked and from then on, Bazmee collaborated with David Dhawan for many more films to come. Namely, Bol Radha Bol (1992), Aankhen (1993), Raja Babu (1994) Deewana Mastana (1997), Mujhse Shaadi Karoge (2004). All of them worked and worked well.

After having written screenplay and dialogues for several films, Bazmee had to become a director. And he did, with the film Hulchul in 1995, starring Ajay Devgan and Kajol. Sadly, the film was hardly noticed by anyone. He came back with the same lead pair in his romantic comedy, Pyar Toh Hona Hi Tha, in the year 1998, remake of the Hollywood film, French Kiss. The film turned out to be one of the biggest hits of that year.

He took a long break from direction, writing scripts for some unsuccessful films in the meantime, but returned with the thriller Deewangee, again starring Ajay Devgan in the lead role along with Akshaye Khanna and Urmila Matondkar. The film failed at the box office.

But with the 2005 comedy film, No Entry, Bazmee kick started his career in a much, much bigger fashion; starring a huge cast of Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Lara Dutta, Esha Deol and Celina Jaitley. There were two more films directed by him that went by unnoticed including Govinda starrer, andwich, which was long delayed.

Bazmee continued his mega commercial spell in 2007 with another multi starrer comedy, Welcome. The film was the second highest grosser of the year. In 2008, Bazmee cast Akshay Kumar Katrina Kaif in the film Singh is Kinng. This film, too, was a mega blockbuster, but panned by the critics. All his films were.
