Whilst on some level anger can be a good thing as one can use it to change their situation

, there are people who cannot deal with their anger problems. These people are a potential danger to themselves and to other people and they need coping skills to manage their anger.

The body will experience certain changes when we get angry. The heart rate and blood pressure will increase and hormones will race through the body causing an increase in energy.

When we become angry, it is better to assert ourselves rather than becoming aggressive. Aggression can be dangerous as we could do damage to others near us to ourselves. This is why it is important to channel the anger in a way that is constructive and not destructive.

Ensure that your needs are clear and that you also provide a mechanism for your needs to be met. By being assertive, we are respectful and straightforward and not demanding or pushy.


Some people suppress anger and this can be okay, provided it is redirected or channeled into something positive. Holding onto the anger and thinking of positive things will help you to manage your anger.

There is a danger that unexpressed anger may lead to greater problems, such as passive aggression or a hostile or cynical personality. People who have been unable to express their anger tend to be critical of everything and cynical about life and other people. Dealing with anger constructively leads to more successful anger management and more positive relationships.

Calming ourselves on the inside and outside is important. Techniques can be learned to mange our emotions and to get the anger to subside quickly. This entails managing our heart beat and our rate of breathing.

What we all need to do is to understand that we are unable to control events and people around us. We can only control ourselves. This one of the key points that we learn on anger management courses.

Psychology teaches us that when we get angry faster than other people and experience anger in a much more intense way we are prone to tolerate frustration at a much lower level than other people. This implies that we consider being frustrated, annoyed and inconvenienced beneath us.

Often times, the reason why some people are more easily aggravated could be physiological or genetic in nature. Anger is also seen as a negative emotion that should not be expressed, unlike most other emotions, therefore it is harder for people to learn how anger can be expressed in a constructive fashion.

Psychologists believe that anger problems could stem from a person's upbringing. Therefore, anger often stems from a background where a person's family was not skilled at communicating emotionally, was chaotic or disruptive. Various tools and techniques and tools can be used in sustained anger management.
