Panic attacks are harmless, but people are afraid of it because they think that they might go crazy or become out of control. It can be frightening due to the complications that it may progress to such as phobias, sudden depression or substance abuse. A person suffering from a panic attack can live normally until an attack occurs.


Meanwhile, an anxiety attack is a different disorder. Symptoms of the disorder may develop in time due to exposure to stress and worry. Similar symptoms to a panic attack are also present like hyperventilation, fatigues, dizziness, chest contractions and restlessness.

Although similar to a panic attack, the symptoms of an anxiety disorder is less intense compared to a panic attack. An important distinction is the duration of an anxiety attack; this can last for a longer period of time.

A panic disorder might be a factor if one is in fear of suffering from a panic attack. If the person makes abrupt changes to their lifestyle such as avoiding areas or place for fear that an attack might occur, then medical advice should be sought for, this can be diagnosed and can be given treatment.


These disorders may be closely tied to the stress in a person's life. Anxiety may go away the moment a problem or situation causing the anxiety has been solved. On the other hand panic attacks needs to be studied and observed carefully in order to be given proper treatment. With anxiety attacks, self help can be utilized.

While the difference in anxiety and panic attacks may look obvious, the important thing to keep in mind is that these kinds of conditions need professional attention. If left without treatment a person with anxiety may commit suicide.

Understanding these attacks can help in alleviating the stress a person may feel and can help in lessening the attack. Medications can be of immense help in the treatment of a panic attack; while self help alternatives can be practiced to prevent an anxiety attack.
