For some people getting started is the hardest part. Frankly, we understand the issues surrounding new projects and wrestling with that evil start demon quite a few times. Heres our first tip to help you win that getting started battletry not to over-think your project from the beginning. What youll need to do is just get the general idea and direction of where you want to go.
Do not give way to thoughts of What if? No! Starting is not the time for questioning yourself. Instead, to quote a clich, Just do it! Seriously, start with small steps. In fact, force yourself to think only about one little step at a time. Eventually, these small, slow steps will turn into a fast walk and eventually youll be at an all-out run. Do this one little trick, and soon you will be accomplishing your goals and moving toward finishing your app project at record speed! WOW! Look at you go!
OOPS! Hang on a moment . . . Along the way, issues will crop up and you will need to know how to survive the hurdles. That elusive light at the end of the tunnel may seem as if it is moving away faster than you are running toward it. Go into the light little grasshopper, go into the light. You may ask yourself, How will I survive when Im more exhausted than ever? Do your best not to worry. It is possible to finish your project when all your steam, creative juices, patience, and faith have nearly run dry.
Margaret says, Take a break and get the heck out of the office. Go to the gym or out for a nice lunch, have a couple of drinks. Oh my, did I say that? Yes sometimes you really need to get your mind off of your project for a little while; give your poor overworked brain a rest. Then, take a day or so to talk about your work in a more relaxed setting. Haul your work to the park on a pretty day or to your favorite coffee shop. This is a good time to run your ideas and problems by some brilliant friends, take a professional working in your field out for lunch and get their advice. Do a few things to shake up the monotony of your normally stressed-out day.
Once you have a little more perspective, its time to take your eyes off the end. Yes, stop looking at the finishing line, return to not over-thinking things, and instead take those small steps again. Eventually, just as it worked before, you will soon be running toward finish line. Wow! Look at you go again!
Take it from two girls who have launched small and large projects galore, these tips will get you through any project that your mind and whim can throw at you. Come on back next time, our article will talk about how to pitch a great idea to clients/investors, even if you have ants in your pants and you are scared to death . . . to borrow a couple more clichs!
