UHF is termed as Ultra high frequency and RFID is termed as radio frequency identification. UHF RFID reader is a wireless system that use radio frequency to send or receive data from reader to the attached tag. Tag may be attached to the thing. Tag may be open or covered. Tag may contain unique identification number or some special information stored in its permanent memory that can be read by UHF RFID reader from several meters. UHF RFID reader is used for automatic identification or tracking of the thing, person or vehicle. Tags may be active, passive or battery supported.

UHF RFID Tags

UHF RFID tags works like a barcode tag. But unlike barcode tag it is not required to present UHF RFID tag before the reader. The UHF RFID reader detects the tags from several meter distances, though they may be covered or hidden in the system somewhere. The RFID tag includes a small RF trans-receiver. The RFID reader transmits the encoded radio signal to check the availability of tag. The presence of tag receives the signal from reader and responds to it with the information stored within it to authenticate.

There are various types of UHF tags available which can be interacted with the RFID reader. UHF RFID active tag contains the on-board battery that transmits the tag id frequently for authentication. The BAP tag is having small battery that gets activated when receives signal from RFID reader. UHF RFID passive tag doesn"t contain any battery on board but it uses the radio energy transmitted by UHF RFID reader. Active tags are more costly than RFID passive tags.

This technology is used to track the goods, person, animals etc.

UHF RFID is even used for Toll collection system without human presence.
