Are Keyword Meta Tags Vital For Google Search Results?

What you might not know is that a Meta tag is designed to give a description of the content of a website or a page

. This is the information that is usually displayed below the title of your website on search engine results. When a potential client searches for this keywords your page will generally be ranked somewhere on the results. The higher the results the more likely customers will find you.

Get First Page Google Rankings If a site owner creates a good Meta description this will help to increase general interest in their product or services displayed on a website because of traffic direction. This is a great way to build up your site as long as you don't have spam characteristics. In terms of generating search engine spam, this occurs when you overuse any word or phrase in your sites pages. When done properly, a specific keyword is determined one that warrants consideration in search engine placement.

One example of this would deal with an individual searching on an engine for compact discs for sale, and you in turn have a guitar business. If you were a spammer, you would use all different types of music related terms to drive business to your website with the keyword Meta description. This would in turn bring in new users that won't have interest in your product anyway. So it is best that you keep your Meta description to exactly what you are selling.

In addition, this tool will help you to be classified by the different search engines. Having a well defined Meta Tag will help to give you a boost on some search engines. That isn't however the case with Google. Instead they ignore Meta Tags as a rule because of spamming problems. They may however display the Meta Descriptions in their results.

Google decided in 1998 to ignore Meta Tag keywords in relevance to search engine rankings. Algorithms were then put into place to ignore this section and new methods were down for SERP.

Since it is no longer a vital part of your website, you should continue to simply complete this section with relevant text and understand it won't help your rankings at all. Instead, focus on optimizing your entire website to help you achieve better listing results.

Of course there is a small exception to this rule that should be noted. Websites that contain the same level of SEO optimized pages that list the keywords they use in their Meta Tag have could potentially see a boost. When determining factors in certain positions are considered, these keyword Meta tags have been shown to have some effect.

One way to optimize your website is to make sure content contains enough keywords on it. Many search engines scan websites to find what is listed as general terms on it. So a website that contains peanut butter around 2% of the time will be picked up as a website about peanut butter, unlike the use of a Meta Tag this helps to actually increase your ranking in the search engines.

In closing, Google does not use keyword Meta Tags for their search engine results. Instead they look for content that is listed on a page in a sense that it isn't written in a spam form. To improve your rankings optimize your website to contain all relevant keywords approx 2% of the time and you should see an increase in your rankings.
