Young drivers are treated as high risk and will often face higher car insurance costs than say other more experienced drivers as a result. This is because younger drivers will have a road accident in the first year of them driving.
It is not just younger drivers that are a demographic that suffer higher insurance rates; it is young male drivers that bear the biggest brunt as they face the social stereotype of a 'boy-racer'. A Boy race' typically drives quickly and often carelessly showing off to peers.
Statistics have proved that the majority of male teenagers make more expensive claims because the average loss ratio for insurers is 120% making them high-risk to insure, not very attractive.
It is also a fact that teenage drivers are ten times more likely to be seriously injured or suffer fatality than motorists of the age of 40. Male drivers are also more likely to have accidents at speed on nights at a weekend where there are not many cars around with other young passengers in the car than an older or female driver.
Younger drivers do not have the knowledge that comes with time that older drivers have and a majority of accidents will happen due to lack of knowledge in poor visibility or weather conditions. Understanding the road is the first task to tackle and is something that comes with time and unfortunately accidents will make your insurance rocket sky high and also put a large dent into your confidence when driving, even in a used Audi a5 or new Audi TT.
With a driving license an extremely coveted possession, the reward of a license on your 17th Birthday can lead to quite an inflated ego and maybe some slightly large boots. This is something that needs to be tackled- maybe the government should think about increasing the legal age limit to drive
