So how can a person tell if green chemicals are really green? There are a number of different ways to gauge how eco-friendly a product is. First, you should find out what ingredients the solution contains. This should be readily available from the supplier in the form of an MSDS sheet. It is important to crosscheck these ingredients with the list of harmful chemicals put out by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA).

Many cleaning products are synthesized either partially or completely using chemicals. There are eco-friendly products available which are completely synthesized using plant material. The cleaning power of these products works a little differently from other products, as they actually penetrate and remove dirt at the molecular level. This is what makes them such effective cleaning solutions. Not only do these nano-particles break down dirt particles, they encapsulate them and prevent them from re-adhering to the cleaned surface.

The Biodegradable Factor

It is important to make sure the cleaning solution is readily biodegradable. Green chemicals from reputable suppliers will list how long they take to break down into the environment. Make sure the green cleaner biodegrades almost completely and safely within a 28 day period.

Authentically green chemicals should also have zero values right across the board on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) hazard diamond. This diamond chart tells the consumer how the product rates in terms of toxicity, flammability, and reactivity with other chemicals, and other special instances. Zeros indicate the highest levels of safety. Remember that a cleaning product does not become eco-friendly just because the word 'green' appears on its packaging. Products meeting the given requirements ensure a more eco-friendly cleaning experience for you.
