Are You a Candidate For a Brow Lift?

A brow lift can do several things, including, lifting your eyebrow position

, making the forehead muscles less prominent, and your forehead skin tighter.

You are a candidate for a brow lift if your eyebrow is touching or below the upper bony rim of your eye. In women, eyebrows are usually at or above the bony rim. As you age, the eyebrow may fall below this rim, which gives you a tired or unintentionally angry look. In men, if the eyebrow is below the bony rim, they may look tired or angry as well.

A brow lift can be done via an open, limited incision, orendoscopicapproach. To move both eyebrows up, in a vertical direction, you will need either an open approach, which is an incision all the way across the forehead; or an endoscopic approach, a 3-5 tiny incisions behind your hairline. The limited incision approach is a shorter incision behind the hairline, which is usually done only when the sides of the eyebrows need to be lifted.

While doing a brow lift, you can also choose to have your forehead muscles surgically weakened. This is considered the surgical way of achieving what Botox does. If you have your forehead muscles weakened, then your forehead lines or furrows will be weaker, therefore the forehead wrinkles will be less visible.

If you have any loose forehead skin, then a brow lift will tighten your forehead skin. This is more effective with an open approach or limited incision approach, as opposed to the endosopic approach.

A brow lift is often used along with an eyelid lift, because many patients have a low eyebrow position, as well as loose skin of the upper eyelid. During your operation, the brow lift is done first, which lifts your eyebrow position and slightly tightens your upper eyelid skin, and then, the eyelid lift can be done.

Some patients may have naturally low eyebrows. They may be happy with their overall appearance or they may wish to undergo a brow lift at a relatively young age.

A brow lift is usually an out-patient procedure, and takes 1-2 weeks to recover, depending on your body's healing ability and how much surgery you undergo. A plastic surgeon can perform your procedure in a surgery center or a hospital in your local area.
