Are you lacking motivation?
I asked a friend to look at my new blog page and to tell me what their thoughts were. They said that I needed a mission statement. Hmm ok a mission statement, if I had to sum up the mission statement of In Motion Fitness it would be to motivate. Then I started to think about what is motivation, what motivates me and how do I go about motivating others.

The root of the word motivation is motive. A motive is something that causes someone to act in a certain way; it can also be described as a goal someone has to do a certain thing. The one that I like the best is: causing or tending to cause action. We have many things that are a motive for us to do things in our life. Often times I ask myself what was my motive for doing this or that? Some things I have found have no real motive behind them it is just something that I do. Like what you may ask? A great example is watching T.V. I come home one of the first things I do is turn on the T.V, when I go to bed on goes the T.V. Recently I thought about this habit, what a colossal waste of time! I have nothing against T.V and I still do watch some, but I have made an effort to pick up a book. Sometimes motivation comes from the lack of having a motive, my lack of having a motive to watch T.V turned into a motive to do more reading.
When it comes to my fitness my motive is good mental and physical health. I realize that there are many days I do not feel like working out or going for that run. These are the time I reflect on my motivation, I know that if I miss today's workout it will not greatly effect me. The more workouts I miss however, the easier it will be to miss workouts. After a short while I certainly will see the effects of not working out. That is the difference between a motive and motivation. Motives can tend to be and underling current that we may or may not realize is causing us to do things. Motivation is how we us our motives in a knowing manner to achieve a desired result.
When I work with clients it is important for them to know the difference between motives and motivation . Although they may not realize it, there are reasons why they have fallen into bad workout habits and poor eating habits. There are motives that cause this. The old motives need to be replaced with new motives. These new motives turn into new motivations. The new dress tool is a great way to teach motives/motivation. Buy a new dress or pair of jeans for the guys in the size you want to be. Hang them up so you can see them every time you get dressed. Your motive for adopting a new exercise and eating life style is to lose weight; your motivation is getting into those new clothes. On those days you do not feel like working out look at those clothes do they fit? There is your motivation to get your butt moving!
