Asian Immigrants Steal Job Or Provide Cheap Labour In Canada

In the last three years the number of immigrant workers has doubled in British Columbia

. 60 temporary foreign workers are supported in the Canada Line Construction (RAV). They are paid $5 per hour or even lesser against which they have to work for about 54-56 hours per week. They do not get any overtime for the extra work they do.

Canada has always been a spot of immigrant population as the Immigration rules are quite easy and soft on the incumbents. Employers find the Asian Immigrants reasonable in terms of money and working hours. They find them to be least demanding too.

Bilfinger Berger is planning to hire about 350 immigrant workers but they are opposed by Ironworkers and also the B.C. Federation of Labor. The federation believes that there are Canadian workers for the job available.

B.C.Government and Services Employees Union is fighting for the 70 Canadian employees who were replaced with foreign workers at Windsor Manor in Kelowna.

A study reveals that an immigrant labour working at a coal mine gets $1 per day whereas a Canadian labour gets $2.5.

According to a survey by Environics, about 60% of the population welcomes the rate of immigration in Canada. In fact the younger generation supports the immigration rate.

Looking at the vacancies, the Canadian Government has introduced legislative to smoothen up the immigration process, so that skilled workers arrive Canada faster.

Canada has been suffering from the challenge of labor shortage. Hence, about 90.000 workers are immigrated from other countries to fill up the vacancies on a temporary basis.

Asian Immigrants mainly have filled up the low paying, hazardous and seasonal jobs which otherwise the Canadians would not have filled up.

Some employers still believe that there is a need for cheap and willing workers which is bets obtained through temporary employment authorization scheme. On contrary to this, organized labor and humanitarian groups claim that this type of arrangement is exploitative and the native citizens lose upon the opportunity to work.

Canadians look upon these immigrants as the reason for them not getting a job. The Immigrants take up the job for much cheaper rate in compared to the Canadians. Hence employers prefer to bring Asians for doing the same job.

The Urban Institute in Washington has analysed that the immigrants create more jobs than they steal. Documented and undocumented Immigrants hold the lost low paid jobs which are quite taxing. They work in the fields and contribute countless number of hours of their labor. They work in restaurants doing the worst kind of jobs. They also work as domestic help and nannies. The institute recommends that the only way for a Canadian or an American to lose his job is not to choose to do a job. The other way is when he or she is fired by the employers. One has to rethink if Asian Immigrants are stealing jobs or contributing to the economy of Canada.
