Immigrants Exploited During Elections
Election witnesses lot many unexpected happenings
. Conservative Government is making an effort to reform the system of Immigration in Canada. Even Immigration minister, Jason Kenney is trying to lure the ethnic communities too.
Jason Kenney addresses the issue of Immigration as the most important at this point of time. He assures people to come with a fast, flexible, active and demand driven immigration system.
On contrary to this Kenneys department has rejected about 100,000 applications from would be immigrants. This is observed as anti-immigrant move.
The Immigration Ministry felt that too many Immigrants have been arriving from Czech Republic and Mexico. Hence, Visas have been imposed on the citizens coming from these two countries.
According to a report, under Kenneys administration the deportation rate has become double.
People have entered the nation on temporary work visas pushing the immigrants to a temporary status under the Conservative Government. Experts believe it to be a right kind of situation for the Government as these temporary workers have no legal rights to exercise which is a benefit for the government.
A report reveals that 300,000 people were allowed to enter Canada in 2008 on the basis of temporary work visas. They had no access to permanent settlement or permanent residency. Obtaining citizenship was a faraway dream for them.
Millions of undocumented people in Canada contribute largely to the economy of the nation. Unfortunately, they have no access to basic facilities of life like education, healthcare or even housing.
In Ontario alone about $31.5 million immigrants have been barred from settling down.
The Federal Government also expresses its inefficacy to maintain programs like Old Age Security. They clarify the situation by saying enough taxes are not coming to the government as there innumerable illegal people staying in the country. At the same time the government does not want to get rid of
illegal immigrants as it helps them to get workers at a low wage.
There is an attempt to divert the attention of working class people in Canada.
In August 2010, when the Tamilian Citizens escaped the civil war going on in Sri Lanka and came to MV Sun Sea off the coast of British Columbia, their families were divided. They were put behind the bars and their children were seized.
The Conservative Government supports this action by terming it as tough stand against crime.
Hudak and Tories could not win even a single seat in Toronto due to their anti- foreigner policy. Half of Torontos population is of immigrants.
Kenney finds the Canadian Immigrations System to be too generous. Although the economic analysts suggest that the nation could accommodate four more times of immigrants than it is doing at present.
Labor unions in Canada should defend the anti- immigrant agenda of the Conservative Government.
An NDP government needs to halt the deportations and provide citizenship to the existing illegal immigrants. The government will also think of providing them with voting rights and making the basic facilities available to them.
