Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder it is the common disorder in children
. It means difficult to stay focused, attention problem and hyperactive, children can't sit still and can't focused properly. Girls are less affect by this than the boys. The children's can't pay attention to any one particular activity constantly.
Three types of Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder:
Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive: The child who acts quickly without thinking to it. Most symptoms are of this types(six or more)
Predominantly inattentive: The child who day dreams and stay in another world. Majority of symptoms are of these types. The child gets difficulty getting along with other people. He just sits but don't pay attention to anything. So this deficit can't see by parent's teacher or by friends.
Combined hyperactive-impulsive and inattentive: It is a combination of both six symptoms of impulsive and six symptoms of inattentive. Most children have this type of disorder.
Warning signs and symptoms:
Attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity are the key symptoms of ADHD, but it is common in all children's but ADHA children have more often this kind of behaviors in them.
Symptoms include in inattention:
They are easily distracted and misfocused. They switch one activity to other frequently and they fail to give attention.
They have difficulty in focus in one thing or activity.
They become bore in few minute doing one task or activity.
They often face difficulty to organize any task or any activity.
They often fail to follow instructions, so they fail to complete their home work, assignment
They often loose things like pencil, rubber, books etc..
When they speak they don't listen to others.
They often avoid the mental task activity such as home work.
Have difficulty in processing information like others.
Symptoms include in hyperactive :
They often fidget and squirm in their seats.
They talk non-stop
They dash with everything around them like with bench or anything.
They face trouble sitting during dinner, story time in school.
They continuously do something without stoping; they stay in motion every time.
They face difficulty in engaging in quiet activities.
Symptoms include in impulsivity:
They give answer before question is completed.
They are very impatience.
They have difficulty waiting for their turn in games.
They often interrupt others conversation and others activity.
Causes of ADHD:
The causes are not fully defined. But many studies have suggested some causes.
Genes: Inherited from parents. It is highly heritable. This arises from combination of many genes.
Environmental factors: Having cigarettes, alcohol during pregnancy cause ADHD. Infection during pregnancy and after child birth is one more cause of ADHD. this includes(measles, varicella, rubella)
Brain injuries: Children are who has suffered from brain injuries shows this kind of behavior. But very less percentage of children has suffered from this.
Food additives Research indicates possible link between consumption of certain food like artificial color preservatives increase in activity(hyperactivity)
Treatment for ADHA:
Medications: They used most common type medication is stimulant. It has effect on children, it works on ADHD. They are other medication which is non-stimulant. ADHD medication reduces hyperactivity and impulsiveness. It also improves physical appearance. But it is possible that medication which works or one child does not work on other, it may cause side effect to other. Stimulant medication comes in form of pill, capsule, liquid, or skin patch. There are certain side effects of stimulant medication like decrease diet, sleep problem, tiredness. The stimulant medications are considered safer. Medication does not cure ADHD it reduces the symptoms child can pay attention and complete the task.
Psychotherapy: Behavior therapy helps to change his/her behavior. It includes practical approach like organization of task, completion of home work. It also teaches to monitor own behavior. They teach them to praise one and give award for acting the desire way. They teach to control anger and thinking before acting. Parents and teacher involvement will help children like they can give positive and negative feedback to the children so that child will learn it fast and can improve.tin behavior therapy they teach child to wait for the turn, share toys, ask for the help etc
They are some more condition with ADHD children's which coexist like learning disability. Oppositional defiant disorder, Conduct disorder, Anxiety and depression, Bipolar disorder, Tourette syndrome. Sometimes this ADHD continues from childhood till adulthood. Sometimes parents can notice ADHD in teenage. So it is better to diagnosis you child in childhood only so u can cure the ADHD.
