Australias Population And Australian Immigration Issues

Controversies were faced by both the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and Liberal Parties during the Australian election campaign.

The Liberal party utilized the slogan Stand up Australia during their campaign. On the other hand, there are also messages coming from the Labor Party stating we want a sustainable rate of population growth but we dont want to set a target for immigration. And we dont want to tell people to have fewer children. In view of this fact, it seems that the debate about population and Australian immigration are getting worst as each day of the campaign passes.

If we will notice, Australias population growth rate is slowing. This is due to the number of people going into the country. Australias annual pace of population growth fell from 2.16 per cent at the end of March last year to just under 2 per cent by the end of last year.

Tourists are also losing its numbers. The level of the countrys immigration is still battling for more migrants while putting pressure on urban infrastructure and environmental resources. The tightening of some visa criteria and the downturn in the global economy are helping to stem the tide.

According to Craig James, CommSecs Chief Economist, the pace of growth in people migrating to Australia is falling at its fastest rate in 16 years. He also predicted that migration will remain at high levels in the years to come as the republic of China requires new people to fill skills shortages in Australias construction and mining industries. That is, unless the politicians are really serious about curbing growth.
