Auto Glass Repair Avondale: Choose The Right Auto Glass Company
How do you know if youre choosing the right company if you have your auto glass replaced. Here are just a few simple questions you should ask before you make that choice.
1) Will I be getting OEM glass?
There are some companies out there that make their own glass and there are companies out there that buy their glass from OEM companies like Pilkington. Should the question arise and they tell you they have their own brand of glass, be on the safe side and look up the company name and find out if their DOT ( department of transportation approved ) also find out if the glass is OEM, OEM aftermarket, or just aftermarket. You'll want to go with OEM or OEM aftermarket.
These two terms just mean Original Equipment Manufacturer. In other words they comply to the specifications of what the manufacturer recommends. If they tell you it is aftermarket be hesitant, especially when it comes to your auto glass. Aftermarket can tend to be thinner than OEM aftermarket. What this means is less materials in the glass itself meaning less expensive, meaning more profit for the manufacturer and glass installer.
Remember if your Insurance company is paying to replace your vehicles auto glass than they are going to pay a set amount, so don't be fooled if someone tells you aftermarket is just as good, it could be because they are going to make a bigger profit on the job. Aftermarket glass can also have a tendency not to fit properly in the vehicles frame and the result would not be a good seal, leading to wind noise when driving and water leakage when it rains or you get your car washed.
2) What type of glue do they use?
This goes hand and hand with OEM. Not many people know this but glue for auto glass can range from 100 dollars a case to 500 dollars for a case. What this means is the difference between OEM aftermarket and just aftermarket. A good certified installer will use OEM aftermarket.
This means he is willing to spend the extra money meaning he will make a little less profit but in the end will get less warranty issues than the installer that uses just aftermarket glue. Noticeably at first you may not see a difference in the two brands but it is usually a two year process before you see a breakdown in the glue itself.
